For more than 56 years, volunteers have been the heartbeat of Share Ourselves. What began around a dining room table — founded by Jean Forbath serving migrant workers — has grown into one of Orange County’s most meaningful traditions: Adopt A Family.
While the program has expanded over the years, its heart remains personal.
Judith has been involved for more than 35 years, first as a donor and later as a volunteer leader. Molly joined through the food pantry in 2012 and now serves alongside her as co-chair of the annual Adopt A Family Program in partnership with Share Ourselves team members.
When the pandemic threatened the program, they stepped forward to help lead.
“I think it’s wonderful for staff and volunteers to work together for that common goal,” Molly shared.

To them, Adopt A Family is about one thing: hope.
“We are giving families a glimmer of hope that better days are ahead.”
The program does more than provide gifts — it restores dignity. Donors shop thoughtfully. Schools work with struggling families to ensure that wishes are fulfilled. Every detail communicates: Someone cares.
For Judith and Molly, this work is deeply personal.
“It’s like family,” Judith says. “Even if we don’t see each other all year, we come back together for something truly worthwhile.”
Collaboration between volunteers, team members, schools, and corporate partners makes it possible.
“It just takes one time,” Judith says.
And once someone experiences it, they return — becoming part of something bigger than a single season.
