A Full Circle of Care

For Carolina Penaloza, Share Ourselves has been part of her life since childhood. Growing up in Costa Mesa, she remembers receiving backpacks and school supplies through Share Ourselves’ Back to School program.
Her family counted on those resources each year.
“Sometimes they didn’t have any money. So, we counted on it just being there every year.”
Years later, Carolina returned as a parent when her daughter began receiving medical and dental care at Share Ourselves. She values knowing that support is available when her family needs it.
“When I’ve needed the support, I feel like I could just ask and it was available to me.”
Her daughter’s relationship with her provider has also made a lasting difference. What was once a stressful experience became one where she felt comfortable and cared for.
“She’s really nice with her.”
And, as Carolina puts it:
“It was just a complete 180.”
During a difficult family transition, Carolina also turned to Behavioral Health for guidance as her daughter worked through big emotions. For Carolina, it showed the value of having different types of care and support connected in one place.
“I feel like having everything in one place is pretty cool.”
Today, Carolina is giving back through her work with Whole Foods and her role as a community partner and board member. She wants more families to know what Share Ourselves offers and to feel comfortable asking for help.
“I think a lot of people don’t know…now I can be a voice.”
For Carolina, that means helping others discover the care, resources, and support available in their own community.
“I felt the love. I also want to be able to spread it.”
Her story reminds us that support received today can inspire someone to help others tomorrow.
