56th Annual Adopt A Family Program

This holiday season, Share Ourselves brought the community together for our 56th Annual Adopt A Family program, continuing a tradition built on dignity, care, and connection.

Because of the generosity of donors, volunteers, and partners, over 1,200 families were adopted, reaching more than 3,500 children across Orange County. Each family received personalized gifts based on their needs and wish lists, helping make the holidays feel brighter and more hopeful. Families also received gift cards, offering flexibility and choice while meeting immediate needs during the holiday season.

“After 56 years, Adopt A Family continues to show us that when people lead with kindness and generosity, the impact reaches far beyond the holidays. It strengthens families, builds community, and reminds us all of the power of compassion in action,” shared Christy Ward, CEO.

What made this year especially meaningful was the people behind the program. Many volunteers were also donors, giving not only financially but also with their time. Others were first-time volunteers who came curious and left inspired, already asking how they could return next year. Together, we wrapped gifts, sorted toys, assembled bikes, and ensured every family felt cared for.

The scale of this effort was made possible through strong community partnerships:

Santa Ana Unified School District nominated more than 500 families across over 50 schools and programs and, through the generous donation of time and buses from JFK Transportation in Santa Ana, 30 buses to transport gifts and support families during pickup.

Head Start and nearly 20 other agencies nominated families, helping ensure young children and their caregivers experienced a holiday filled with care and stability.

The Anaheim Ducks Foundation adopted more than 44 families, stepping in to support local households in a meaningful way.

One of the most memorable parts of the event was the bike workshop. OC Wheelmen volunteered countless hours to assemble, test, and prepare hundreds of bicycles, including bikes for children and teens. Every bike included a helmet and lock and was ready to ride, ensuring every smile reflected the care put into each detail.

For 56 years, Adopt A Family has been more than a holiday program. It is a reminder of what happens when people show up for one another. This year’s event reflected the heart of our community and the shared commitment to supporting families when it matters most.

To every donor, volunteer, community partner, and supporter, thank you for being part of this tradition and for helping carry it forward.
