A Full Circle of Care

In 2015, the Luna family first connected with Share Ourselves through the Adopt A Family program. Each holiday season, they returned year after year, driven by a desire to brighten the lives of families in need. Their young son, Dominic, eagerly joined in these moments, helping deliver gifts and experiencing firsthand the joy and responsibility of giving back. These early experiences shaped his understanding of community care, empathy, and the importance of supporting neighbors during life’s most challenging times.

Years later, life took a difficult turn for Dominic. Struggling with homelessness and addiction, he faced obstacles no young person should have to endure alone. It was during this time of crisis that the Luna family found themselves on the receiving end of the same care they had once offered to others. Through Share Ourselves, Dominic had access to basic necessities like nutritious food, hygiene kits, and vital medical treatment. These services provided more than just physical support—they offered a lifeline of dignity and hope.

“Share Ourselves helped keep him alive long enough for us to have that year. That time meant everything.” For the Lunas, the organization’s support was not just about survival—it was about creating moments of connection, comfort, and human dignity during a period of immense uncertainty.

– Kristen Luna, Dominic’s mother

Though Dominic ultimately lost his life to relapse, the family remains deeply grateful for the compassion and care he received. Kristen reflects, “Circumstances can change in a single day. Organizations like Share Ourselves matter because they keep people alive long enough to find hope and healing.”

The Luna family’s story illustrates the profound and far-reaching impact of community support. It is a story of giving and receiving, of the ways small acts of kindness ripple through lives and generations. It reminds us that every gift, every meal, and every volunteer hour contributes to a network of care that can sustain people in their most vulnerable moments.

At Share Ourselves, this mission drives everything we do. By providing health services, food access, and social support with dignity and respect, we aim to ensure that every person, like Dominic, has the opportunity to find hope, stability, and the chance to thrive—no matter what challenges life may bring. The Luna family’s journey is a testament to why compassionate care matters and why community engagement continues to transform lives, year after year.
